For some it is “Freedom Day”, for others it is pure recklessness: Despite high incidences, most of the corona restrictions in Berlin will be lifted from Friday. Masks are only mandatory in a few places. Brandenburg follows on Sunday.

Many corona measures are history for Berliners from Friday. These include, for example, the obligation to wear masks when shopping and in schools, as well as the 3G rule for restaurant visits and hotel stays, according to which this was only possible for vaccinated, recovered or negatively tested people.
According to a decision by the Senate, however, Berliners must adhere to some basic protective measures. These include, for example, the obligation to wear masks on buses and trains as well as in medical practices, hospitals, day clinics and care facilities. Berlin is thus adopting the requirements of the Federal Infection Protection Act.
In Brandenburg, too, only a few basic protective measures should remain in place from Sunday. From April 3rd, all passengers in local public transport must wear an FFP2 mask. A surgical mask is sufficient for school transport and for children up to the age of 14. Also in health and social care facilities Visitors and employees must wear an FFP2 mask when performing body-related services.

Corona tests are also still required three times a week in the city’s schools. At the suggestion of the education administration, the rule has also been extended to vaccinated and recovered people – whether students, teachers or other employees. Education Senator Astrid-Sabine Busse is critical of the elimination of the mask requirement in schools from April 1 and has called for this protective measure to be voluntarily adhered to. In Brandenburg, the masks in the schools should fall from April 3rd. Here, only unvaccinated students have to test themselves three times a week.
Among other things, a number of Berlin cultural institutions have already declared that they want to stick to the mask requirement. These include, for example, the city’s three opera houses, the Deutsches Theater, the Schaubühne, the Berliner Ensemble and the Humboldt Forum. Within the framework of the so-called house rules, it is possible to continue to insist on the obligation to wear a mask.

To visit a swimming pool, tickets still have to be bought online for a specific time window, otherwise the 1.50 meter distance rule cannot be observed, said a spokesman for the pool companies. Masks are no longer compulsory in the pools, and the 3G rule for entry is no longer applicable.
In general, the previous regulations for isolating people after a positive corona test also apply. This also applies to those who have been classified as close contacts by the health department and have not been vaccinated or recovered. However, easing of the quarantine regulations is also in sight.
In Brandenburg, most of the Corona rules will no longer apply from Sunday, April 3rd. In addition to the mask requirement in schools, the mask requirement in retail and 3G in restaurants, theaters and cinemas and 2G in clubs are no longer applicable.
