Choosing the right and comfortable pillow is one of the most important things in getting a good night’s sleep. Here are a few important rules when choosing a pillow.
- When buying a bed pillow, it is recommended to choose a pillow that is not too high, not too hard, or too hard. The ideal height is between 10 and 20 cm.
- Pay attention to the width of the pillow to fit shoulder width and make sure the head does not slide to one side when sleeping.
- If you sleep on your back, it is best to choose pillows of low and medium thickness, which means that they are not too full or too flat so that the neck does not bend forward, which reduces bone pain.
- If you sleep on one side, it is best to use a long, thick and firm pillow. Because this extra thickness helps fill the space between the shoulder and the ear, while adding support for the head and neck.
- Sleep on your stomach and try to choose low, thin and flat pillows to reduce neck curvature and avoid back pain.
- Sleeping on your stomach puts a lot of pressure on your lower back.
- For people with respiratory conditions, it is preferable to choose latex or rubber pillows as they are less prone to mold.
- When the pillow is bent in the middle and no longer returns to its normal shape, this means that it is time to replace it, which is a step that must be done regularly every 2-3 years because it often becomes fertile for the environment of diseases and allergens such as mold, skin cells, dead cells, dust and fungus.
- It is recommended that you try on the pillow before purchasing it in the store to make sure that it is suitable for everyone’s sleeping position and to choose the material that you prefer.
