Rui Costa elected president of Benfica: check the official results

List A candidate was elected this Saturday in a record vote in club history.

Former soccer player Rui Costa, 49, was elected the 34th president in the history of Benfica, by winning the elections for the social bodies of the club, with 84.48% of the votes.

The official announcement was made at dawn this Sunday, after 4:30 am, by the chairman of the General Assembly, António Pires de Andrade, after the election with the most voters ever (40,085), against the 38,102 who elected Luís Filipe Vieira in 2020.

Rui Manuel César Costa, elected for the 2021/2025 quadrennium, beat Francisco Benitez, leader of the Servir o Benfica movement, which had 12.24% of the votes.

Luís Filipe Vieira, who headed the club since 2003, suspended his duties in July, following the Red Card operation, being replaced in the position by then vice-president Rui Costa.

Rui Costa: 84.48 percent

Francisco Benitez: 12,24

White votes: 2.72

Void votes: 0.56

Total Voters: 40,085
