Rugby / Top 14. Covid-19: Montpellier-Toulon postponed

The Top 14 rugby match between Montpellier and Toulon, scheduled for Sunday evening, was postponed “to a later date following a series of positive control tests” for Covid-19, the National Rugby League announced on Saturday (LNR).

“Many cases” had been announced Friday by RC Toulon, without specifying the exact number.

A new health protocol entered into force this week, with a minimum of two tests per week, for all players, following the cancellation last weekend, the day after Christmas, of the match scheduled between Stade Toulouse and Stade Français .

Modified protocol

During the 13th day, last weekend, four out of seven matches, including the match between Toulon and Bordeaux-Bègles, had already been postponed because of numerous absences linked to the Covid-19.

This postponement causes three schedule changes for Sunday’s matches: Bordeaux-Bègles – Biarritz will take place at 4 p.m., then Castres – La Rochelle at 6 p.m. and Lyon – Racing 92 at 9:05 p.m., instead of Montpellier (3rd) – Toulon (11th), on behalf of the 14th day of the Top 14.

In order to avoid new postponements, still problematic in an already very busy schedule, the National Rugby League (LNR) has modified its Covid protocol: 23 players available, including at least fifteen professionals and six from the front line, are now sufficient to play .
