RUGBY – The past year has been marked by unprecedented situations linked to the global Covid-19 crisis. Cancellations and postponements in shambles have made us live a complicated rugby year. For 2021, the situation still seems very uncertain regarding many events. Nevertheless, hope leads us to think that 2021 could also be a great year for rugby, with some milestone events. Lions Tour, Olympic Games, Women’s World Cup, here are all the events you shouldn’t miss in 2021.
The 6 Nations Tournament (February 6 – March 20)
Each year the VI Nations Tournament is the major event of winter. It is the true summit of European rugby. Its level of difficulty is matched only by its prestige. This year it will be eagerly awaited because the last edition suffered a lot. Indeed, in 2020, the pandemic crisis cut the tournament schedule in two. An event of only five days took place over eight months … For 2021, despite the resurgence of cases of the virus in the countries concerned, the tournament should still be held but the meetings will take place behind closed doors. However, the women’s tournament should be postponed and that of the U20s canceled.
At the sporting level, the expectation is great concerning theequipped with France. Now that the men of Fabien Galthie have garnered victories, they will have to garner titles. For the opening match, the Blues will face the Italians in Rome. We also wait to know if the English will be able to succeed themselves. Can the stars finally align for the Scottish ? Wayne Pivac, the coach of Wales, will he survive this tournament? Does the new generation irish will meet the challenge? The Italians can they finally win a match? We hope to have all the answers to these questions before the start of spring.

European Finals (May 21 and 22)
As with the 6 Nations Tournament, the European Cup rugby team also experienced a turbulent 2020. The finals of Champions Cup and of Challenge Cup took place in October, while the group stages had ended since January. This season, we will therefore live the finals of two editions of European Cup, with eight month intervals. For this updated 2021 edition, we can’t wait to see which teams will adapt the best.
But as with the VI Nations Tournament, uncertainty also hangs over the rest of the competition. Tensions have already arisen between French clubs and theEPCR, the body that manages European rugby, on the issue of health protocols. Several meetings have already been played on the green carpet. If the competitions go to the end, we will be very curious to see who will succeed Bristol (Challenge Cup) et Exeter (Champions cup), au Marseille velodrome on May 21 and 22.
Pro D2 Final (June 6)
Like most championships in France, the Pro D2 could not go through in 2020. There was therefore no winner the previous season. Likewise, there were no ascents and descents in Top 14 or in Federal 1. It is therefore with great joy that we will watch this final of Pro D2 2021 to see who will succeed Bayonne, champion in 2019, and will validate his entry ticket to Top 14 at the same time.
Accession match (June 13)
The loser of the final Pro D2 will be donated to this poster the following weekend. He will face the thirteenth of Top 14. The challenge is to reach the Top 14 for the Pro D2 team and not to go down to Pro D2 for the Top 14 team. Without rising and falling last season, the play-off did not not happened. This accession match was established in 2018 and it is therefore the third in history that will take place in 2021. The first two times, it is the Pro D2 teams who obtained their ticket for the Top 14 (Grenoble in 2018 and Brive in 2019). We will see if this rule is repeated a third time.
Qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games (June 19 – 20)
This is the event not to be missed for our teams in France! The Blues and the Blue will travel to the principality of Monaco to get the precious ticket that will open the doors of Olympic Games, a month later. This is the last step and it is extremely important! Among girls, there are still two places to take. In view of the competition, Blue should get by and could be accompanied by Russians to go to Tokyo. On the boys’ side, it looks better. Indeed, only one qualifying place will be issued. Even if they will start as favorites, the Blues will have to get rid of Samoans and Irish to access their dream.
???? The last Olympic Qualifying Tournament for our teams # France7 will take place in Monaco on June 19 and 20, 2021 ⚡️

Top 14 Final (June 26)
Last year, the most prestigious and dense national championship in the world could not deliver a winner. As with the Pro D2, the Top 14 had to stop in March 2020 and the end of the regular phase, as well as the finals, had been abandoned. No name engraved on the shield of Brennus in 2020 therefore. 2021 will therefore mark the return of the finals and the long-awaited final of the French championship. We can’t wait to see who will finally succeed Toulouse stadium, champion in 2019.
Lions Tour (July 3 – August 7)
Four years after snatching the draw in New Zealand, the selection of British and Irish Lions will travel to the world champions South Africans during summer. It is surely the most anticipated planetary event after the World Cup. A prestigious selection of the best Welsh, English, Irish and Scottish players will face one of the best nations in the southern hemisphere. In 2021, we have the chance to see them move to the reigning world champions, as in 2009 or 2017. We hope that the white year of South Africans will not have affected the Springbok machine. The tour is scheduled to begin on July 3 for a game against the franchise Stormers. The three encounters between Springboks and Lions will be played on July 24, July 31 and August 7.
We also hope that the tour will take place. Indeed, British countries and South Africa are currently very affected by the new variant of Covid-19. A decision should be made by the end of January. Will the tour run smoothly? Could we see the Lions to tour in another country (New Zealand? France?)? Will there be a postponement or cancellation of the tour?
Tour des Bleus in Australia (July 3 – 17)
In the middle of summer, Blues will rub shoulders with Wallabies. After the VI Nations Tournament, the Habs will therefore have the right to another big test. The last time the French had visited Australia, it was in 2014 under Philippe Saint-André. Conclusion: three defeats for the Blues. Moreover, they have not won in Australia for almost 30 years. It was in 1990 and the French won 19 to 28. In 2021, the French will play three tests. They will take place on July 3, 10 and 17.
Olympic Sevens Rugby Tournament (July 26 – 31)
It has become the new unmissable event for rugby sevens. We can’t wait to see the best nations in the world compete for the most beautiful medals. As with many competitions, the Tokyo Olympics, which were to be held in 2020, were postponed. They will therefore take place during the summer of 2021.
Among women, the gold medal seems promised to New Zealand women. The teammates of Michaela Blyde will still have to beware of Australians, reigning Olympic champions. We must not forget the Canadian and the American, which have progressed enormously in recent years. The French, who should qualify during the TQO, will have every chance to get a medal. In men, Fijians, reigning Olympic champions, are favorites. The battle is likely to be bitter with the New Zealander, reigning world champions, the South Africans, the Americans and the British. The men’s tournament will be played July 26-28, while the women’s tournament will be July 29-31.
Women’s World Cup (September 18 – October 16)
The ninth edition of the Women’s Rugby World Cup will take place in New Zealand. Twelve teams, divided into three pools of four, will compete to decide the best selection in the world. The French will have a lot to do since they are in the hen of theEngland. The New Zealand women and the English are favorites for this World Cup. The Black Ferns play at home and the Red Roses have achieved a breathtaking year 2020.
The opener will take place on September 18. The final will be held on October 16, on the legendary lawn of theAuckland Eden Park. In addition to the English, the Blue will also rub shoulders with South Africans and Fijians in the group stage.
