The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, pointed out this afternoon that Galicia is a leader in the prevention of meningitis with the most comprehensive vaccination schedule in Spain that seeks to protect the entire population from this infectious disease.
During the presentation in Vigo of the documentary ‘Meningitis in Galicia, beyond the figures’ – promoted by the Spanish Association against Meningitis -, Rueda recalled that the goal of the World Health Organization is to eradicate the disease this is in the year 2030 and that the Xunta has been working for some time to achieve this milestone in the community.
Galicia was one of the first autonomous regions to introduce the meningococcus B vaccine to children in the vaccination schedule – at 2, 4 and 12 months – and was also a pioneer in introducing pass the MenACWY quadruple vaccine from four months onwards.
