Trump’s former lawyer and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has filed for bankruptcy. He was sentenced last week by an American jury to pay damages of approximately 136 million euros.
By filing for bankruptcy, Giuliani wants to gain protection from creditors and have time to appeal the mega fine. Giuliani has had to file documents with the court stating that he has assets of between $1 million and $10 million and debts of between $100 million and $500 million.
Condemnation
Trump had lost the 2020 election in Georgia and tried to prove that there had been fraud. Giuliani claimed that two women had blacked out votes for Trump and double-counted votes for his opponent Biden. They also allegedly tampered with voting machines. There was no evidence at all for those claims, but Giuliani kept repeating them.
The women, Wandrea Moss and her mother Ruby Freeman, told a jury last week about the hate they faced after the allegations. A federal judge previously found Giuliani guilty of intentional infliction of emotional distress and conspiracy. The jury had to determine the amount of damages.
