Rudy Giuliani, disabled as a lawyer in Washington DC

New York (EFE).- The former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani was officially disqualified this Thursday from practicing as a lawyer in Washington DC for helping the former US president and current Republican candidate, Donald Trump, in his attempts to interfere in the 2020 election results.

The District of Columbia has already suspended Giuliani’s lawyer’s license in 2021 in response to a disciplinary proceeding opened against him in New York for making false claims in order to overturn the results of the 2020 election, in which Joe Biden defeated Trump.

Rudy Giuliani did not respond to a court order

The appeals court explained today that Giuliani did not respond to an order from this court that gave him the opportunity to explain why he should keep his license.

Giuliani’s spokesman, Ted Goodman, today asked in a statement to “members of the legal community who want to protect the integrity” of the judicial system to speak out against “this partisan and politically motivated decision.”

Goodman added that Giuliani “remains the most effective prosecutor in American history.”

In 2023, a disciplinary commission of the Washington DC bar association already recommended the disqualification of Giuliani for claiming that “massive electoral fraud” was committed in the elections without having evidence of this.

In addition, this summer the New York Supreme Court also disqualified him from practicing law in the state, alleging that he “communicated manifestly false and misleading statements to courts, legislators and the general public in his capacity as the former president’s attorney.”

Prosecuted for trying to reverse the election result

Last June, Giuliani was prosecuted before authorities for allegedly trying to overturn the result of the 2020 general election in the state of Arizona.

Additionally, in December 2023, two Georgia election workers were ordered to pay $148 million for defamation, after which they declared bankruptcy.
