Rudy Giuliani turned himself in on Wednesday in a jail in Atlanta for the charges against him related to the attempts to annul the defeat of the then president Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

The former mayor of NY he was indicted last week along with Trump and 17 others. The Fulton County federal prosecutor, Fani Willis, said they all colluded to subvert the will of the voters after Trump lost to the Democrat Joe Biden in the November 2020 elections.

Giuliani – on file like the other defendants – was released after being sentenced to $150,000 bail the second largest in the case, only surpassed by that of $200,000 imposed on Trump.

Giuliani, 79 years old, is accused of spearheading Trump’s attempts to require state legislators in Georgia and other states where the elections were hotly contested to ignore the will of the electorate and illegally appoint pro-Trump crusaders.

Georgia was one of several states where Trump lost by a narrow margin, with Republicans and their allies claiming, without evidence, that the election was rigged in Biden’s favor.

Giuliani is charged with making false statements and soliciting false testimony, conspiring to create false documentation and asking state legislators in breach of their oath to name an alternate list of pro-Trump caucuses.

Outside the Fulton County Jail Wednesday afternoon, Giuliani laughed when asked if he regretted siding with Trump.

“I feel very, very honored to be involved in this case, because this case is a fight for our way of life,” Giuliani told reporters. “This indictment is a sham. It is an attack… not just on me, not just on President Trump, not just on the defendants in this indictment, some of whom I don’t even know. This is an attack on the American people”.

After Giuliani turned himself in, Trump reiterated his unsubstantiated claims that the election was rigged and stolen from him, and wrote on his social media platform that “the greatest mayor in New York City history was just arrested in Atlanta, Georgia because he fought for electoral integrity.”
