Grafenegg/St. Pölten/Berlin (MH) – The pianist Rudolf Buchbinder will remain artistic director of the Grafenegg Festival for two more years. His contract has been extended until the end of the festival in 2026, the organizers announced on Tuesday. A successor will be announced next year.
Buchbinder has been artistically responsible for the music festival since it was founded in 2007. The 76-year-old is “one of the main fathers of the Grafenegg success story,” praised the governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner. With a sure hand, he ensures that world-class musicians perform at the festival every year.
During Buchbinder’s tenure, the main venues, the auditorium and the cloud tower, were built, the park was revitalized and the open-air season was extended to a three-month season. From 2024 to 2026, the hall of the former riding school will be renovated and modernized to become the third central venue. This is intended to create a fully-fledged concert hall, which will be named after Buchbinder upon completion.
The Grafenegg Festival takes place annually from the end of August to mid-September. The focus is on concerts with international orchestras and soloists.
