Udvada in Gujarat is one of the most important places of worship for the Parsi community. Cafe Farohar, run by mother and son, is a favorite spot for foodies looking for a unique taste of Parsi food there.
Early 1980s. A Parsian girl who was only 18 years old began the tiffin service. Her restaurant quickly became famous for its taste and quality of food. After some time, she got married and entered the house. Then 37 years later, in January 2017, she sees an advertisement in the newspaper: a vacancy for a caretaker in a dharmasala in Udwada, Gujarat, one of the most important places of worship for the Parsi community. She applied and got the job.
It is a place of worship where Parsi devotees come from different parts of the world. He had a desire to bring something new to the food served in his Dharamsala. Despite being one of the most important places of worship for the Parsi community, he realized that his Parsi food was not available there.
Then he thought why he couldn’t set up such a restaurant. Then in the same year he opened a restaurant in Udvada.
Name of the restaurant– Farohar coffee
The name of the owner – Hila Marolia
Son Shezad, who was looking for a job in the hotel business overseas, also joined Hila. Cafe Farohar is one of Udwada’s busiest restaurants after five years.
Beri Pulao, Kid Gosht, Salli Marghi, Tapeli Kebab etc. it is a feast for the eyes. This mother and her son admit that it was a bit of a difficult decision to include a dish that is not so famous on the menu, but that has so much importance in the tradition of the Parsi community. But today those dishes have a lot of fans.
They serve dishes costing up to 400 rupees in the cafeteria. They say serving the tastiest Parsi food to devotees who come to town is more important than making a profit.
