Ruch is still in the fight to stay in the Ekstraklasa! The “Blues”, in order not to be relegated to the 1st League after this round, had to beat Lech at the Silesian Stadium. And it worked! The hosts won 2-1 and it was a fully deserved victory, because “Kolejorz” played another disastrous game this year under the leadership of Mariusz Rumak. The winning goal was scored by substitute Michał Feliks in the 84th minute.
Lechia came to the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów for the start against Ruch in a bad mood, because last weekend they could not take advantage of Jagiellonia’s stalk. Mariusz Rumak’s team drew goalless with Cracovia at their own stadium, which was very disappointing, but above all, the gap to the leader before the 31st round was still four points. However, the hosts are in a terrible position and could be officially relegated on Friday, but a few days ago they managed to beat Śląsk away, which certainly gave a very positive effect on the morale of Janusz Niedźwiedz’s team.
Slow start, but then blow after blow
The hosts controlled the ball from the start, but – as happened in many previous games this year – the pace of play was too slow, making it difficult to surprise the opposition and create scoring opportunities. . On the other hand, Ruch looked for their opportunities in counter-attacks, but their football opportunities were limited.
It was only in the 22nd minute that something happened in front of the goal – especially the one defended by Dante Stipica. Lech had more space due to high ball reception. Ishak found Szymczak with a perpendicular pass into the penalty area. He was good at tricking his first opponent into swinging, but took too long to shoot with his left foot. As a result, it was blocked.
This situation opened this meeting for us. A minute later there was one on the scoreboard. And with the logo of the hosts, to the delight of the local audience. It was a strange goal, because Stępiński’s soft throw went past everyone, including the goalkeeper “Kolejorz”, and was heading for the goal. At the last moment, Daniel Szczepan got a finish and the only problem was whether the ball managed to cross the goal line.
The Blues did not enjoy the lead for long, as the hosts responded immediately. Jesper Karlstrom took the ball over and ran into the penalty area as he passed the next opponents. The last of them, Tomasz Wójtowicz, cut it. Tomasz Musiał took a penalty kick. This one was probably used by Mikael Ishak. For both Szczepan and captain Lech, it was the 10th goal of this Ekstraklasa season.
Mariusz Rumak decided again to be established without wings. Kristoffer Velde and Adriel Ba Loua sat on the bench and it didn’t work at all. His team had great difficulty getting the ball out of their defensive formation. Many of these activities culminated in a long play and the key was to collect the second ball. They were more often scored by Ruch, who had a much better idea for the game and took the initiative in the final minutes before the break.
The move stayed and then he hit Lech
After a few moves by the “Kolejorz” players, their fans could only hold their heads, and the hosts got the wind back in their sails. After the change of sides, they were still the better team, but that didn’t translate into scoring chances. The statistics about effects on a target did not change.
Ruch’s pressing intensity was also decreasing from minute to minute, making the game more and more tiring as the visitors were still unable to do anything in a positional attack. You could only count missed long passes.
It was only in the last quarter of an hour that something started to happen. Initially, Novothny had a good chance, but his header was saved by Mrozek. On the other hand, Velde had the same chance, whose cross was handled by Pereira. However, Stipica was alert. Ishak’s follow-up hit the side netting.
This situation did not teach anything to the guests, who surprised them again in the 84th minute. Another cross from the right – this time by Wójtowicz – and Michał Feliks, who had no problem with his fifth goal this season, was completely goalless in the penalty area.
It was a three point goal, as despite the pressure, Lech were still ineffective in their attacks. He restricted them to crosses, but – just like Cracovia – many of them went over the heads of “Kolejorz” players. Mariusz Rumak calmly looked at his watch, but time passed until Tomasz Musiał whistled for the last time. Ruch is still in the fight to stay in the Ekstraklasa! However, Lechites complicated their position in the fight for European cups.
