Rucava – Riga – Rome: A Journey of Strength and Courage

Opening the premiere at the Splendid Palace cinema, the author of the idea of the film and the main character in one person, Edgars Trankalis, shared his thoughts on why everyone should watch this film: “The purpose of the film is to inspire, excite and motivate everyone to become more active and thinking people who are ready set yourself high goals and fight for their achievement.

To show that any person is capable of reaching incredible and challenging heights, as long as they are ready to fully commit to them and not give up at the first failure or obstacle.

It doesn’t matter what shape or type of target you choose. It can be in sports and business, as in art and science. Or in any other chosen field. Everything is possible – the main thing is not to be afraid, to want and do it.”

In the plot of the film, on June 1, 2021, video artist Edgars Trankalis rode a bicycle from his parents’ home in Rucava and

went alone on a challenging journey with one single goal – to reach Rome in 40 days.

His route was deliberately designed in such a way that he could both test his strength and enjoy unforgettable moments and views at the same time.

It led along various asphalt and sand roads, as well as various mountain paths and paths.

This journey was made much more difficult by the fact that the author of the film was determined to capture it all by himself.

To keep the bike maneuverable and as light as possible, Edgars Trankalis armed himself with only a few, simple and small cameras and a drone. It required some effort and extra time to charge the camera batteries and save the footage.

“It is a story about daring, testing one’s strength and courage in accepting such a challenge.

Being alone, dealing with various conflict situations, while maintaining psychological resilience and faith in one’s own strength – was a big challenge.

However, the film shows that anything is possible, even how much one person is capable of, how much he can do if he wants to and believes in his own abilities. In my opinion, this story is an excellent example of how to achieve your goals and become a much stronger and more balanced person,” says Edgars Trankalis.

A number of well-known people did not hide their excitement after watching the film.

Edgars Trankalis not only measured the road from Rucava to Rome alone, but also after the cycling adventure he set himself a new challenge – to create his first documentary film alone.

Therefore, Edgars Trankalis is the sole author of this film, as well as the producer, scenographer, cameraman, photographer, video editor, animator, graphic and sound designer, as well as a behind-the-scenes voiceover.

In total, the film took more than two years to make.

“There are many talented and capable people in Latvia, but only a few have believed in it and discovered these potential traits and talents in themselves. It is impossible to accomplish great things in life without motivation and inspiration.

That’s why inspiring movies like this are so important. I hope my film will be like that.

I am a living example of the fact that with faith in one’s own strength one can accomplish things, even which at first seem unreal.

Despite the fact that virtually no one believed in me before this challenge, I ended up cycling all the way to Rome and making this film, which was actually five times more difficult than riding a bike.

It required a lot of time and patience, but at the end there is a huge satisfaction for what has been done,” says Edgars Trankalis.

The TV premiere of the film “Rucava – Riga – Rome” will be shown on November 20 at 4 p.m. on the LTV7 channel.

The movie will then be available to watch on LMT stream and also online link for free. A 4k version will also be available after that YouTube with English subtitles.
