Ruble Exchange Rate Fluctuations and High Recycling Fees Cause 24% Increase in Passenger Car Prices in Russia, Says Automotive Industry Consultant

Fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate and the high recycling fee rate caused a 24% increase in the price of passenger cars in Russia by the end of 2023. An independent consultant on the automotive industry, Sergei Burgazliev, spoke about this.

“The reasons for the rise in price are obvious: serious fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate throughout the year, as well as an increase in recycling fee rates,” the consultant quotes “News” To these reasons we can also add the rising cost of logistics, says Renat Tyukteev, General Director for Sales of New Cars at Avilon AG.

At the end of last year, the average price of a light car in Russia was 2.96 million rubles, which was an increase of 24% compared to 2022. Moreover, in 2019, the average price tag for a passenger car reached 1 million 556 thousand rubles. In five years, the cost has almost doubled.
