Luis Rubiales stored private whatsapp conversations with Pedro Sanchez. The communications date back to at least June 2018, after the motion of censure against Mariano Rajoy that caused the arrival of the socialist leader in Moncloa, and continue to the present day. The messages mostly revolve around key episodes for the world of football, but they also deal with matters of general policyas confirmed by El Confidencial.
The copy of the communications from the President of the Government is added to the recordings that the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) also made to ministers and other senior members of the Executive, including the Minister of Culture and Sports between June 2018 and January 2020, Joseph Guiraoand the Secretary of State for Sports and president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) between January 2020 and March 2021, Irene Lozanoas this newspaper has revealed.

The files of the so-called Supercopa Files reveal that some of the messages that Sánchez sent to Rubiales were later forwarded by the latter to third-party devices. The exchanges show that, after his arrival in Moncloa, the socialist leader maintained a cordial relationship with Rubiales, but, over time, began to distance Between both.
The reason why the head of football in Spain decided save these communications and other files supposedly compromising for the Executive. In the recordings he clandestinely made to Guirao, Rubiales is seen moving his cell phone to make sure that the name of the then minister was recorded clearly, for example. A similar method he used to capture Lozano’s voice on several occasions.

Both the former Minister of Culture and the former president of the CSD have lamented in recent hours that Rubiales betrayed their trust by recording private conversations without their knowledge. The discomfort extends to the entire Sánchez government. The RFEF issued a statement on Wednesday to unlink Rubiales from these audios and videos, but the revelations of El Confidencial have shown that he was not only aware that recordings were being made, but that he himself made sure that the captures had a impeccable quality.
The publication of these files has led the Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta, responsible for Government Sports, to make a move. The current president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, announced this Thursday afternoon that his organization is studying two complaints against Rubiales. One of those complaints has been filed by the president of the Association of Spanish Soccer Players (AFE), the main players’ union, David Aganzo, who was investigated by detectives hired by the Federation through a front company.

According to Franco, in the event that the CSD detects signs of irregularities in the management of Rubiales, the complaints will be automatically transferred to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD), which must decide if the facts unable to continue acting as president of the RFEF, a private body, but with public utility, which, in addition, exercises powers delegated by the State Administration.
Parallel to this front, Rubiales has another leak in the criminal jurisdiction. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has decided to open investigative proceedings on his management at the head of the RFEF after admitting a complaint that imputes the possible crimes of corruption between individualss, corruption in business, unfair administration, administrative prevarication and bribery, without ruling out the possibility that this list ends up being much longer.
