Al-Hilal, coached by the Portuguese Jorge Jesus, thrashed 9-0 today at the home of the last placed team in the Saudi League, Al-Hazem, in a match on the 14th round, maintaining a four point advantage over Al-Nassr, by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The story of the game was the story of goals, which started in the 14th minute, when Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring, but Al-Hazem’s resistance would break on the brink of half-time, with two more goals, in the 42nd and 43rd, by Mohamed Kanno and Mohammed Qahtani, respectively.
In the second half, Al-Hilal scored another six goals, with emphasis on Brazilian striker Malcom, who scored a hat-trick in the 52nd, 55th and 85th minutes, leaving his colleagues Saleh Al Shehri, Mohammed Al Burayk and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored the remaining three goals, at 79, 81 and 90+3, respectively.
For Jorge Jesus’ team, Portuguese international Rúben Neves played, who started, played the 90 minutes and provided the assist for the ninth goal, by Serbian Milinkovic-Savic.
Al-Hilal thus maintained a four-point advantage over its most direct pursuer, Al-Nassr, coached by the Portuguese Luís Castro, adding 38 against its rival’s 34, with both already digging a ‘moat’ for the third placed, Al-Ahli, who remain with 26 (minus one game), in a fight for the title that seems restricted to the two.
On Friday, Al-Nassr received and beat Al-Akhdoud 3-0, with two goals from Ronaldo.
