The former Atleti striker and technical secretary revealed Raúl’s failed renewal before becoming a Real Madrid legend and the failed signing of Ronaldo.
Rubén Cano, one of Atlético de Madrid’s most legendary strikers, went through the radio program ‘Ways to Live’, in which he revealed several secrets from his time as a player, but also in that of his role as technical secretary.
In one of the episodes he remembered how Raúl went to Real Madrid. “Raulito was an outstanding player in the Cadet. He called him Maradonita. He dazzled me. One Sunday I invited the father to the box. We stayed in a week to renew but he did not come. Madrid was always about playing players.”
Add that “They told me that he signed for Madrid, a year before Jesús Gil left the lower divisions, something that seemed crazy to me” and adds that “people say he left because the lower categories were closed, but it was not so, left before that ”.

Rubén Cano continued to describe events during his time at Atlético de Madrid, one of them with Ronaldo Nazario, a player who Rivaldo now compares to Haaland and who surpasses both him and Messi or Cristiano before the age of 20: “I was bought. I left the club and I became an intermediary, because I had many relationships and contacts. I saw a 16-year-old kid in Brazil, Ronaldo. I said ‘this is leaving’.
