Although we have been able to welcome real summer weather in the past few days, the rains of the past few weeks have certainly not yet passed without a trace. A section of the cycle path around Lake Velence is a clear proof of this.
Starting from the county seat and leaving Kisfaludo, there are two ways for cyclists: those who continue their journey straight can approach the lake from the direction of Pákozd, those who turn right can approach the lake from the direction of Dinnyés. Well, whoever chooses the latter direction will face difficult terrain: the section of the cycle path that runs under the M7 motorway is currently under water as a result of the extreme amount of rainfall that has fallen in recent weeks.
In practice, this means that when you get off the bike, the water is roughly knee-deep on the ominous section, while those enjoying the joys of outdoor sports will ideally be “only” wet up to their ankles when sitting on a bike – and cycling. According to our experience, there were people who tried to cross the road with their bare feet, pushing the bicycle over, while others, defying the extreme amount of water, simply switched to water bike mode and rolled over the moat.
A concrete block blocking the bike path also warns of the extreme conditions, but practical experience shows that many people take on the difficult course at their own risk. It pays to be careful.
