The eruption of the Ruang volcano in Indonesia caused the closure of seven airports due to the ash cloud that reached Malaysia. Mount Ruang erupted three times on Tuesday, spewing lava and ash to a height of 5,000 metres. Fearing that material ejected from the volcano would cause tsunamis when it fell into the sea, authorities ordered the evacuation of 12,000 people from the nearby island of Tagulandang. Indonesia, an extensive archipelago in Southeast Asia, is located on the so-called ‘Ring of Fire’ of the Pacific, which is why it frequently registers seismic and volcanic activity.
