The first Eredivisiecompetition of 2022 may not take place. According to RTV Oost, PEC Zwolle requested for Friday night game against Willem II to postpone.
This has to do with a large number of corona infections in the selection of the Eredivisie last. Although the KNVB emphasizes that clubs should simply play if they have at least twelve field players and one goalkeeper, a number of Keuken Kampioen Division matches have already been canceled since the turn of the year. According to RTV East the football association will consider a possible cancellation of PEC-Willem II on Thursday.
PEC is by no means the only Eredivisie club that has also had to deal with the increasing infection figures in the Netherlands. For example, Ajax, Vitesse and NEC had to break off their foreign training camp for various reasons and PSV, Feyenoord and sc Heerenveen were not on the road at all. In the first Kitchen Champion Division round after the winter break, the Excelsior-ADO Den Haag and TOP Oss-Jong AZ matches have already been removed from the schedule, while FC Dordrecht-Jong AZ has been moved from Friday to Monday 17 January.
