RTV Maastricht – Maastricht medical research awarded with scholarship

Today, the Heart Foundation awarded researcher Dr. Magdi Nagy from Maastricht UMC+ with a Dekker Fellowship. This is a personal research fellowship for talented scientists which is awarded every year. With the grant of 280,000 euros, it will be able to conduct research on cardiovascular diseases in the coming years.

Nagy’s research focuses on safer drugs for patients who have had a stroke. Many of them are prescribed medicines to prevent blood clots. Blood clots can lead to another cerebral infarction. However, these drugs have a nasty side effect. They can cause bleeding, sometimes even dangerous.

Scientific research is badly needed to prevent people from dying or getting sick and worse from cardiovascular disease. With its personal Dekker grants, the Hartstichting therefore seeks to connect the best talents to cardiovascular disease research. A Dekker grant helps researchers establish and expand their line of research.
