MEDIA – Russia will hinder “Western media work” on its territory, in retaliation for European justice decision to confirm the suspension of the dissemination of the Russian news channel RT France, said on Wednesday, July 27, the Kremlin.
“We are going to take similar pressure measures targeting the Western media working here in the country. We are not going to let them work in our country either, “the Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told the press.
These media should not expect “no flexible approach” on the part of the Russian authorities, he warned. Dmitri Peskov denounced an “attack on freedom of expression and press freedom in European countries, including in France”.
Accused of being instruments of “disinformation” of the Kremlin, the Spoutnik and RT state media (including its French -speaking version RT France) were prohibited from broadcasting in the EU from March 2, on television as on Internet, following an agreement of the twenty-seven shortly after the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine.
The RT France channel, owned by an association funded by Moscow, ano-TV Novosti, challenged this measure before the EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
In its judgment, the EU court argued in particular that the “temporary prohibition” did not call “in question” the freedom of expression “as such” contrary to what RT France asserted (ex-Russia TODAY) – The Russian state media, sanctioned after the triggering of the Russian offensive in Ukraine on February 24.
