The Omicron variant of the Corona COVID-19 virus continues to grow, and even 1 case of local transmission has been found in Indonesia. One of the factors is the spread of Omicron which is recognized to be faster than other variants.
Although it is easy to spread, this variant has milder symptoms than other variants.
Doctors also revealed that the symptoms due to infection with the Omicron variant are often milder and even now there are no signs of pneumonia.
The statement was conveyed by the Chair of the POKJA PINERE (Infectious, New Emerging, and Reemerging Diseases) RSPI Sulianti Saroso, Dr. Pompini Agustina Sitompul, SpP(K).
The POKJA PINERE chairman also said that Sulianti Saroso Hospital treated a number of Omicron variant COVID-19 patients who had mild symptoms. Even the first Omicron local transmission patient in Indonesia also experienced the same symptoms.
“The Omicron cases that have been treated at Sulianti Hospital remain the same, namely the symptoms are mild, but there is no difference from the previous ones,” explained Dr Pompini in an online discussion, Thursday (30/12/2021).
So there is still anosmia, nasal congestion or runny nose is still there, cough is there, but what we don’t find at this time is a picture of pneumonia and hopefully it won’t lead to pneumonia,” he continued.
Although a number of patients often experience mild symptoms, his team found comorbid COVID-19 patients with hypercoagulopathy or blood clotting disorders. But he emphasized that he could not confirm that the condition was caused by an Omicron variant infection or comorbidity.
“I just want to say, there are some patients with comorbidities that concern us, these patients are asymptomatic, but they happen to be hypercoagulable,” explained Dr. Pompini.
“Is it because of comorbidities? This is what we will study later. So (symptoms of the Omicron variant) there is no difference,” he said.
