RSF Files Second Complaint to ICC Regarding War Crimes Against Journalists in Gaza

– In light of the massacre of journalists in Gaza and the targeted attacks to which they appear to be subjected, we ask ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan to state clearly that he prioritizes highlighting the crimes committed against journalists in Gaza and prosecuting them, says RSF Secretary General Christophe Deloire.

According to RSF, at least 66 journalists and photographers have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since 7 October, and the international journalists’ organization believes that many of the attacks have been targeted.

In the inquiry to the ICC, the organization singles out seven Palestinian journalists who were killed in such attacks between 22 October and 15 December.

Some of the victims were killed by Israeli snipers, others in rocket attacks that were aimed at the car they were driving or the house they lived in.

– RSF has reason to believe that the journalists named in this complaint were victims of attacks that can be characterized as war crimes, it says.

– According to information obtained by RSF, these journalists may have been victims of targeted attacks because they were journalists, it says further.

RSF also submitted a complaint to the ICC on 31 October demanding that the murders of seven other named Palestinian journalists be investigated as possible war crimes.
