A 28-0 shutout victory against the Sherbrooke Vert et Or allowed the Université de Laval Rouge et Or to confirm their RSEQ season championship title on Saturday afternoon.
The Rouge et Or thus finished the regular season in first place in the standings with a record of seven wins against one loss, the same record as the Montreal Carabins. Laval, however, holds the tiebreaker.
Laval’s only setback was suffered two weeks ago in overtime, precisely against the Carabins. The Rouge et Or also finished the season first in points allowed, with only 106 points.
On Saturday, quarterback Arnaud Desjardins threw three touchdown passes and excelled with 24 of his 29 pass attempts completed, for gains of 280 yards.
Olivier Cool led his team’s receivers with 94 yards of aerial gains as well as a touchdown, while Isaac Gaillardetz and Nathan Lacasse also scored majors. Kicker Felipe Forteza was responsible for his team’s other points.
The Rouge et Or will begin their playoff journey on November 2, against the Concordia Stingers. The Carabins will face the McGill Redbirds.
The Vert et Or was unable to secure its ticket to the playoffs.
