ŘSD also intends to start the construction of three new sections of the D7 highway with a total length of 17 kilometers this year.
The Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD) opens the Kněževes interchange on the D7 highway one year after the start of construction work. The intersection was modernized for more than 100 million crowns. The last restrictions should disappear from the highway today.
“The restrictions on the road under the bridge will remain for about three months, the work will now move there,” added Jan Rýdl, spokesman for the ŘSD. At the Kněževes interchange from the 1970s, the highway crosses the III/2405 road between Kněževsí and Tuchoměřice via a bridge.
At the same time, the branches of the intersection ended with a “STOP” sign without connecting lanes when entering the highway. Also, turning from the highway was until recently without turning lanes. Therefore, the reconstruction mainly meant the addition of turning and connecting lanes.
The highway bridge was also widened, which is thus ready for the future expansion of the D7 to six lanes. The work also included the reconstruction of the drainage system. The contract was awarded to Strabag.
“According to the latest traffic census, up to 35,000 vehicles pass through here every day, approximately one fifth of which are lorries and trucks. Therefore, the new modifications of the level crossing will help not only the flow, but above all the safety of traffic,” added Rýdl.
The event is part of the long-planned cultivation of the D7 highway near Prague, which, as a former expressway, lacks highway parameters in many places. After the completion of the Kněževes intersection, it will be time to modernize the intersection near the airport (MÚK Aviatická), where preparatory work is already underway in the form of felling of trees. The Kněževes intersection will serve as a detour route during the works on Aviaticka.
ŘSD also intends to start the construction of three new sections of the D7 highway (Knovíz – Slaný-západ – Kutrovice – Panenský Týnec) with a total length of 17 kilometers this year. In the next three years, the entire Central Bohemian part of D7 should be completed.
