Rs 10 Lakh Compensation for Families of Mananthavadi Jeep Accident Victims

Thiruvananthapuram: Rs 10 lakh will be given to the families of those who died in the Mananthavadi jeep accident. Joined today
The decision belongs to the cabinet meeting. 9 people died in a jeep accident in Kannothumala. All the dead were plantation workers. The Collector had sanctioned Rs 10,000 each as an emergency financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

The jeep, which was going home with the workers after work, went out of control at the bend and overturned into Koka. The accident took place on August 25 at 3.30 pm near Mananthavadi Thalapuzha Kannoth Hill. The workers of Makimala Estate died. The jeep which came down from Kannothamala towards Thalappuzha road fell down a steep slope near the Kannothamala bus waiting shed.

Those who died in the accident: Sathyan’s wife Leela (42) of Kulanthodi, Thalappuzha Makhimala No. 6 Colony, Shobhana (54) wife of Kookotil Balan, Rabia (55) wife of Kapil Mammu, Shanta (50) wife of Padmanabhan, Chitra (28) daughter of Padmanabhan, Kartyani (wife of Velayudhan) 62), Pramod’s wife Shaja (42), Chandran’s wife Chinnamma (55) and Thankaraj’s wife Rani (57) on Panchami.

Injured: Jeep driver Manikanthan (44), Chinnayan’s wife Umadevi (43), Pushparaj’s wife Jayanthi (45), Balasubrahmanyan’s wife Lata (38), Manikandan’s daughter Mohana Sundari of Thalapuzha Makhimala No. 6 Colony. Lata was seriously injured and taken to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Others are undergoing treatment at Wayanad Medical College Hospital.
