At a meeting of the country’s ruling party’s central committee, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un acknowledged the food situation was “tense”.
“The food situation of the people is now even more tense as the agricultural sector failed to meet grain production plans due to the damage from last year’s typhoon,” Kim said.

As per reports, prices of essential foodstuffs have skyrocketed in the nation’s capital, Pyongyang, with a kilogram of bananas selling for $45, a pack of black tea for $70 and a packet of coffee for $100,000.

During the meeting, Kim called on party members to work to address food shortages.

However, it is unclear how North Korea can quickly address the issue as the country’s borders remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
