Royole unveils FlexPai 2, its second foldable smartphone

Royole unveils its second foldable smartphone – Geeko

Yes Royole was the first manufacturer to present a foldable smartphone, it was a moderate success. The Chinese company was quickly overshadowed by
Samsung and his
Galaxy Fold. Today, Royole is trying to come back to the fore by announcing its second model of foldable smartphone, the
FlexPai 2, which adopts a new type of flexible screen.

The phone will have a flexible panel OLED of 7.8 inches named Cicada Wing. A new generation of screens with a much smaller radius of curvature (1 mm) which will allow the phone to be much flatter when closed.

The screen, with a 4: 3 aspect ratio, will also benefit from several improvements, including 50% more brightness, as well as richer colors and a higher refresh rate.

As for the hinge – the focal point of foldable smartphones -, Royole assured that it would be significantly strengthened compared to that of the first FlexPai. The phone is said to be able to withstand over 200,000 opening and closing cycles, like the Galaxy Z Flip. Finally, as you might expect, the new Royole foldable smartphone will be compatible with 5G. It will also carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.

Originally, Royole was to present his new creation on the occasion of Mobile World Congress to be held in late February in Barcelona, but the epidemic of
coronavirus urged the organizers to cancel the show. This is why Royole organized a conference in China to unveil his FlexPai 2. In reality, the presentation was more focused on Cicada Wing screen technology rather than on the smartphone.

It will therefore be necessary to wait to discover the FlexPai 2 in more detail. Difficult to imagine that it manages to pull the cover in front of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the Huawei Mate Xs as its manufacturer is unknown to most consumers. The marketing of FlexPai 2 should also be limited to the Chinese market.
