Kate Middleton’s genealogy has revealed unexpected family ties, most notably with US President George Washington.
At the announcement of Kate Middleton’s marriage to Prince William in 2011, the one who would become Duchess of Cambridge was projected on the front of the media scene and raised several questions. Notably that of her genealogy: was she really a simple commoner who was going to marry a member of the British royal family?
These questions of inheritance quickly aroused the interest of specialists who looked closely at the case. The research carried out by the New England Historic Genealogical Society had then revealed at the time of the princely nuptials, to say the least, unexpected results, including, among other things, a family link with the first president of the United States, George Washington. The results were made public with the publication of the book “The Ancestry of Catherine Middleton” in January 2011.
Distant cousin of Guy Ritchie
It is the entire genealogy of the one we knew as the heiress of Carole Middleton, former flight attendant, and Mike Middleton, former air traffic controller, which has been traced. Today millionaires thanks to their prosperous Party Pieces company, specializing in the sale of festive objects (cardboard plates, balloons …), the parents of the Duchess came from middle-class families, including ancestors working in the Durham coal mines.
British specialists went back further and discovered a slew of cousins and unexpected ancestors of Kate, including King Edward I, who is also an ancestor of Prince William, or Guy Ritchie, director and ex-husband of the famous singer Madonna who would therefore be Kate’s sixth cousin. “I find that what is interesting is that the future royal family will really have ancestors in all British classes,” said at the time the CEO of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Brenton Simons, during a meeting with CNN in 2011.
