ROYALS. Meghan and Harry blow out four candles, the guest list for the Queen’s throne party and a radiant princess

Wedding anniversary Harry and Meghan

Last Thursday, May 19 to be exact, Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary. The couple tied the knot in 2018 in front of millions of fans and royalists. And it was, to put it mildly, four eventful years. Not only did the couple leave the royal family and move to the United States, they have also been able to welcome two children since they married: Archie and Lilibet.

Stars for the British Queen

And that’s not the only happy event. This year, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for no less than 70 years and that will be celebrated in June with a series of concerts at Buckingham Palace. And the stars that will perform for no less than 2.5 hours are not the least. Alicia Keys, Duran Duran and Andrea Bocelli will be among the participants. Add to that some other world stars such as David Beckham and Stephen Fry and the party is complete.

Don’t worry if you can’t be there yourself. The BBC will broadcast the entire concert live on Saturday 4 June.

Unexpected visit in Spain

In Spain they held their breath last week because none other than the Spanish king Juan Carlos was briefly in his home country. The old monarch was in exile for two years, but the corruption investigations against him have been dismissed, and so he returned. Not to stay in Spain, it’s just a quick visit. Juan Carlos, who is now 84, will be back in Abu Dhabi right away.

Recycling in Sweden

Not only our Queen Mathilde and her Dutch colleague Máxima are good at recycling outfits. The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria also delved into her wardrobe before the visit of the Finnish president Sauli Niinistö and his wife Jenni Haukio, and pulled out an old classic. The blue, elegant dress was already featured in a state portrait in 2018 and stole the hearts of many royalists.

Small detail: four years ago the dress had no sleeves.

On a mission in the Netherlands

Not an elegant outfit for Willem-Alexander. The Dutch king took part in a military exercise in Schaarsbergen. Dressed in army clothing, the monarch invaded an occupied house and drove a patrol vehicle. There was also shooting − with blanks − and a door went up in the air.

That the king was allowed to participate in the exercise is quite unique. Outsiders, including the Dutch monarch, are usually not allowed to participate in such exercises.
