Former Top Prospect Jordan Groshans Seeks Revivial with Royals
Jordan Groshans, a player who was once a highly touted prospect, is looking for a fresh start with the Kansas City Royals.
The 25-year-old corner infielder inked a minor league deal with the Royals, according to a report by Robert Murray of FanSided. “The CAA client spent this year in the upper minors between the Yankees and A’s,” Murray noted on X.
Groshans, a former first-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays, garnered significant attention from 2019 to 2021, landing on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects list each year. However, his path to stardom has been sidelined by a lack of consistent offensive production.
He made his Major League debut with the Miami Marlins in 2022, appearing in 17 games and hitting a modest .262/.308/.312. Unfortunately, his success couldn’t translate into sustained opportunity.
Following that brief taste of the big leagues, Groshans landed with the Yankees via waiver claim last offseason. Yet, after he failed to impress in their farm system, New York traded him to Oakland in June for third baseman J.D. Davis. Both players ultimately struggled after the swap, highlighting Groshans’s challenging road back to relevance.
Despite his struggles, Groshans’s potential still remains. He has shown glimpses of solid plate discipline throughout his career but needs to rediscover his offensive power to secure a permanent spot in the majors. "He’s a .252/.347/.331 hitter in more than 1000 Triple-A plate appearances," the article noted.
With his time on the Kansas City Royals minor league roster, Groshans has another chance to prove himself. Now, he aims to rekindle that early promise and finally establish himself as a force in Major League Baseball.
