Walldorf celebrates the royal vegetable from May 10 to 12
Enjoy cooking at several venues, concerts with clubs worth seeing, hosting live music on two stages and on the street, a colorful program for the whole family on the new play street, the arena- a little tried and tested game, as well as Sunday shopping, the always exciting asparagus peeling… Competition and crowning of the new asparagus queen – that is the asparagus market 2024 in one sentence. It is marked from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th May, in the center of Walldorf. The best feeling is guaranteed. And of course the royal vegetables come to the table in many variations.

New this year at the asparagus market is the play street on Leopoldstrasse, which offers a colorful program for the whole family on Saturday from 1pm to 6pm and on Sunday from 12pm to 5pm. There will be Theo Tollpatsch alias Jörg Schreiner, Tine Groß with her participatory performances and the traveling stage Carnivore with the piece “The Devil with the Three Golden Hairs” based on the Brothers Grimm. Further entertainment is provided with face painting, popular games and a carousel. At the other end of the festival mile, on Lindenplatz and then towards the main street, you will find the tried and tested small playground with a carousel, ball and dart throwing and sweets stalls. And JUMP also opens its doors to everyone at the asparagus market on Saturday from 2pm to 8pm. In addition to a large selection of board and card games, there is table tennis, billiards and table football. Crepes also serve small hunger.
The musical program continues on Saturday on the Drehscheibe stage from 1pm with the local cover band No Excuse with a rock repertoire from the sixties to the present day. The formation Heidelberger Rockmaschine, which joins at 3:30 p.m., was founded in 1990 as a company band of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. Their repertoire ranges from Joe Cocker to the Blues Brothers to Peter Gabriel and Spliff. From 6:15 pm, we will go on a musical world tour with the Trio BLU, who will present music from different traditions and in many languages in a semi-acoustic, musical, light and elegant way. From 9pm it will be a turn of the Noise Pollution RockRevue with rarities and milestones in rock music as well as our own songs.
The Walldorf clubs will open the program on Saturday on the stage at the market square: from 1 pm the German-Chinese Friends Circle will be presented, and from 1:30 pm you can watch the martial arts of the Astoria Walldorf Samurai Budo Club. From 2.30pm Rock4Kids with Jörg Schreiner and the band promise a great concert for the whole family with German songs and their own pieces. Renaissance from Hockenheim will continue with an attractive mix of rock and pop from 5pm. They will be preparing the ground for the popular ZAP gang, who will be playing from 8pm.
On Sunday, too, the square level of the market belongs to the clubs: the city band plays from 12pm, Viet Vo Dao continues with performances from 2pm and the dance guards of the carnival company Astoria Störche take the tour from 3:30 p.m. Before then, the Sparkasse asparagus peeling competition will take place from 3 pm: In addition to Mayor Renschler and Asparagus Queen Kira I., Eric Pensalfini, mayor of the French twin town of Saint-Max, has also announced that he is the involved in it. The Lennebrothers provide music from 4.30pm with a mix of styles from rock’n’roll, rockabilly, country, blues and skiffle and from 7.30pm Ninety-Nine provide songs by the band Toto from “Rosanna ” to “Africa”.
