ROYALTYLady Anne Glenconner (91), a childhood friend of the late Queen Elizabeth, is not happy with Meghan Markle (42). She believes the Duchess of Sussex was unprepared for royal life. She tells this in the podcast ‘Rosebud with Gyles Brandret’. “She probably thought it would be some kind of acting job.”
“I think Meghan had no idea what was expected of her after marrying Prince Harry,” Glenconner begins. “I think she thought she would be riding around in a gold carriage. That it would be some kind of acting job.” Queen Elizabeth’s childhood friend admits in the podcast that fulfilling royal duties can be quite boring. “It’s mainly about meeting hundreds and thousands of people that you will never see again. In addition, the royals have to pretend to be happy .They are all pretending,” she explains.
At the beginning of January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were distancing themselves from the British royal family. Shortly afterwards the two moved to America. “I thought it was a shame and I feel sorry for Prince Harry,” says Lady Glenconner.
Lady Glenconner shared her own experiences with the British royal family in the book ‘Lady In Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown’, which was released to the world in 2019. Glenconner and Queen Elizabeth had been friends for a long time. She was given the honor of being a bridesmaid to the monarch and was also present at the queen’s coronation in 1953.
