However, in 1666 London was engulfed in the Great Fire, the flames of which also consumed the luxurious bank. After a few years, the building was completely renovated, but suffered another misfortune: in 1838 a fire broke out again in the bank.
In 1844, Queen Victoria organized the restoration of the building, she also ordered architects to design the building in such a way that the bank would have an authentic sixteenth-century appearance.
