Roy Keane becomes the favorite to take over Celtic

Former Manchester United tough guy Roy Keane has become the new favorite to take over as Celtic manager.

The Scottish giants are looking for a new boss after parting ways with Neil Lennon in February, then in a miserable and sustained fashion.

Celtic have missed a historic 10th straight title after Steven Gerrard’s Rangers left with the division and have yet to lose a single domestic game all season.

Now Celtic are in line for a shakeup and Keane is ready to get the hot seat handed over to him, according to bookies.

Keane has surpassed current interim boss John Kennedy in the race and is now no better than 4/5 with any bookmaker, making him a clear favorite.

The Irishman donned the Celtic jersey during his playing days, and moved to Scotland after finishing his career at Manchester United.

Keane headed to Glasgow after a now infamous fight with coach Sir Alex Ferguson, but only made 10 appearances for the club, scoring once and recording one assist.

Keane already has managerial experience under his belt, having assumed sole leadership during stints at Ipswich and Sunderland.

Most recently, he served on the coaching staff for Aston Villa and the former Nottingham Forest club as an assistant coach, while also gaining international experience with Martin O’Neill and the Republic of Ireland.

Speaking this week about the possibility of Keane going to Celtic, O’Neill, who remains a legend in Parkhead, insisted that his former second-in-command has all the makings to be successful.

He told Go Radio: ‘Roy Keane is managerial stuff? Absolutely.

‘I’ve worked with him, I know, as an assistant. He has an opinion, he knows the game inside out, and he’s a strong, strong character.

The argument would then be ‘does the modern player feel that he can be comfortable in that environment?’. That is a decision for other people to make.

‘But absolutely [he can adapt] I think there is sometimes the feeling here that anyone of a certain age or old is credited with the word dinosaur.

Roy has his own methods, that’s when he does his work as an expert, you can see that it is so. And I think strong characters in a football club would like that kind of management. ‘
