“With indescribable sadness I have to inform you that Pelle Alsing has died”, writes singer-guitarist Per Gessle. “Pelle was not only a creative drummer, but also the best friend you can imagine, a generous person.”
The group’s manager has also confirmed the death to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
The Swedish rock group Roxette was actually a duo around Marie Frederiksson and Per Gessle. But Alsing played on the first album of Roxette in 1986 and also toured with the band.
Roxette scored hits in the eighties and nineties, with songs such as ‘It Must Have Been Love’, ‘Joyride’, ‘Listen to Your Heart’ and ‘The Look’. The group sold more than 75 million records worldwide.
The band’s lead singer, Marie Frederiksson, died of cancer on December 9, 2019.
