SHOWBIZZRoxeanne Hazes (30) can sometimes look very jealous at the bond between her friends and their mother. The singer says this in ‘Boerderij Van Dorst’. She has not seen her own mother, Rachel Hazes (53), for three years. “I have to remain realistic, I don’t think that band will ever work out again. Just too much has happened,” he said.
Things have been going on within the Hazes family for a long time and Roxeanne has not seen her mother, Rachel Hazes, for three years now. The two even became embroiled in a lawsuit over her father’s inheritance. Roxeanne says in the TV program on NPO 3 that she sometimes finds it complicated to suddenly have her mother on the other side of the line.
“When I became a mother myself, I made a very clear choice not to feel the pain anymore. I don’t wish that on myself, my child or my family. I must say that there is a kind of peace now,” says the singer. That took her many years. “It is of course not something that has only happened in recent months. At the time I chose here and no further, it just ends here.” She doesn’t expect things to work out between her and her mother. “I have to remain realistic, I don’t think that band will ever work out again. Just too much has happened for that.”
Unsafe youth
Have you ever been spanked in the past, asks presenter Raven van Dorst. “Yes, as a child I was very angry and was also bullied. My father was listed as an alcoholic. If you are confronted with that at school, then that is not nice.” She says that she was definitely a temper tantrum when her father died. “You really shouldn’t say anything about my father, then a light would go off for me.”

She no longer has that and has been engaged to her boyfriend Erik Zwennes for seven years, together they have son Fender (5). “I love my family. Without them I would enjoy life a lot less.” In the past seven years, there has not been a night that Roxeanne and Erik slept without each other. “I think you look more for that warmth and safety if you felt unsafe in your youth.”
Van Dorst continues to ask about this insecurity. “My father drank a lot and you could sometimes hear the records coming off the wall at night. Then he was very angry or sad. As a child you always sleep with one eye open.” Hazes wants to ‘do things differently in an obsessive way’. “That’s actually not necessary at all, because there were plenty of things in my youth that I experienced as pleasant. I didn’t just have a miserable childhood.”
Although she has been used to attention all her life, Roxeanne certainly sees a life outside the spotlight in the long term. “Maybe one day I will have a second child, if that is given to me. I think being a mother is the best job I have ever had.”
