Rowing. The international Maya Cornut joins the Pôle France de Nancy

Since the last European Championships in Poznan (October 9-11, 2020), it has already taken some landmarks on Boulevard d’Austrasie. But the case is now official: Maya Cornut has just joined the ranks of the Pôle France de Nancy, a structure in which she will train – at least – until April.

Trainee in the human resources service of the Departmental Council of Meurthe-et-Moselle, the international Gironde will therefore have plenty of time to row on a daily basis with his partner of the four without tricolor coxswain: Nancy’s Emma Cornelis. Two young women who know each other on the shovels for having “scrapped” since their junior years, and won their first continental medals in U23: in silver with the eight point (in 2019, in Ionnina; GRE), in gold l last year, in Duisburg (GER), in a four barred.

Selected for the first time from the “Élites” in Poland last fall, Maya Cornut and Emma Cornelis have already won their place (alongside Adèle Brosse and Lou-Anne Caniard) in the hull that will embark at the Euro de Varèse (April 9-11): a backstage that they will try to keep until the Olympic qualifying regatta (May 16-18, in Lucerne)… And why not as far as Tokyo!

The fifth rower of the Pole

“The desire is not necessarily to attract women to Nancy (Editor’s note. In theory, the Federation concentrates, as much as possible, international rowers on the Nantes and INSEP sites). It is rather a combination of circumstances. But it’s a very good thing for us. Maya quickly melted into the group, bringing her bonhomie and her dynamic. She is a girl who always has the banana ”, notes Sébastien Bel, the head of a proud institution which – moreover – had not welcomed so many athletes of the fair sex for a little while …

Between the Pôle Espoir and the Pôle France proper, there are now five to row on the Meurthe: Camille Juillet, Emma Cornelis, Maya Cornut, Marion Chagnot and Noémie Aubert.
