“Rowing Setback: Czech Women’s Team Struggle to Finish Seventh Place Due to Oar Malfunction”

Bled (from our correspondent) – In the fight for the overall seventh place, Markéta Nedělová, Alžběta Zavadilová, Eliška Podrazilová and Simona Pašková managed only a few shots smoothly. “Right after the start, we caught a crab,” Eliška Podrazilová described the unusual situation in rowing, when the oar gets caught in the water during the backward movement.

But Markéta Nedelová was even more worried. “As Maky’s oar crossed, it spun on its axis. A knot was formed on the hawk, which neither of us saw could happen,” Podrazilová shook her head.

The hawlink, which helps hold the oar in the boat, was suddenly unusable and all hope was over. “Practically, I knew right away that there was a problem and there was nothing I could do. Anyone can catch a crab, but who would mess up a hook like that? I’ll be the world record holder,” Nedělová smiled bitterly.

Soon, even her partners were clear. “As Simča and I were sitting at the very front, we didn’t know what was happening. I just turned around and shouted something at Maky, but when we noticed the hawk, we knew there was nothing we could do. If it was just a crab, one grabs the oar and moves on. But nothing can be done about this,” Podrazilová knew.

The young Czech women, rowing in threes, were understandably picking up the loss, they reached the finish line to the applause of the fans, two minutes short of the winners. “We were glad that the organizers let us finish and didn’t throw us off the track. Hopefully it will just be a funny experience, next time it will be much better and we will hope for the front row,” believes Podrazilová.
