Rowdy Tellez hits home run in Pirates’ 7-2 win over Mariners

Pittsburgh. Mexican Rowdy Tellez hit a home run to lead Pittsburgh in a 7-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball. It is the tricolor’s tenth home run this season with the Pirates.

With the score tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, Tellez hit a home run to drive in another run, giving the Pirates a 3-1 lead.

The seventh inning was key for Pittsburgh to get the victory after a home run by Jared Triolo and another double by Téllez.

The Pirates had to hold on in the ninth after the Mariners loaded the bases on a walk and two hits by Domingo German. David Bednar relieved him and retired three more batters for his 22nd save.

Kiner-Falefa hit his first homer since joining the team in a July 30 trade with Toronto. He launched a 406-footer off Luis Castillo.

Pittsburgh left-hander Bailey Falter (6-7) matched his career high with eight strikeouts, allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits and no walks.

It was the fifth straight loss for Seattle, which began its second day in the American League West.

Tigers win over Yankees

The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the first two innings and secured a 4-0 victory over the New York Yankees, in a game in which Venezuelan Keider Montero (4-5) achieved his fourth victory after five scoreless innings.

Montero, 24, is playing his first season in Major League Baseball and, with this afternoon’s victory, also adds his third win in consecutive outings.

The Yankees finished a scoreless game for the first time since a 3-0 loss to the Boston Red Sox on July 7. Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton combined for one hit.

In another game of the day, Dominican Luis Severino (8-6) pitched the complete game in the 4-0 victory of the New York Mets over the Miami Marlins. The New Yorkers thus improved their record to 64 wins and 59 losses, in third place in the National League East division.

The Rays beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 in a game in which Cuban Yandy Díaz had three hits and drove in two runs. Tampa Bay leveled its record at 61 wins and the same number of losses.

Additionally, Puerto Rican Jorge López achieved his third save of the season and the 30th of his career in the Chicago Cubs’ 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
