Route, street closures, race schedule and everything you need to know – El Financiero

One of the most important sporting events in Mexico City is just around the corner: the 2024 Marathon, where Mexican athletes, and those from other parts of the world, are looking to improve their times and aspire to the top spots.

High-performance athletes prepare themselves physically and mentally to travel through different areas of the Mexican capital, but it is a city that ‘never sleeps’ and some drivers may see their journey affected this Sunday, August 25. That is why we have here the list of the route and the streets closed for the race to take an alternative route.

What are the closed streets and the route of the 2024 Mexico City Marathon?

The starting point for runners registered for the 2024 Mexico City Marathon is at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, home of the Pumas team of the Liga MX, right in front of the venue’s flagpoles.

They stay for a little more than 10 kilometers on Avenida Insurgentes and at the Glorieta they turn to enter Avenida Oaxaca, Nuevo León and through Sonora they arrive at Chapultepec.

Florencia is the street used to get to Reforma, where they first go around Chapultepec Forest, to Chivatito and arrive at Polanco.

They go around Lincoln Park and then reach Presidente Masaryk, then take the National Army to Darwin and pass by the National Museum of Anthropology and History, which is part of the INAH.

They return to Reforma, turn off at the Monumento la Revolución until Plaza Garibaldi, return to Av. Juárez, pass in front of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, where artists have given concerts in the past, and enter the Zócalo through 20 de noviembre.

What time does the CDMX Marathon start?

According to information shared by the Mexico City Government, the 2024 Marathon starts at 5:45 a.m. with the block of participants in wheelchairs and the visually impaired.

At 5:50 a.m. the elite women’s block, that is, the high-performance athletes, will start; at 6:00 a.m. the elite men’s block will begin, all in central Mexico time.

From this moment on, the rest of the runners begin to leave in groups.

Which Metrobús stations are closed for the Mexico City Marathon?

The Metrobús stations closed due to the sporting event in Mexico City are the following, by public transport line, from 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Central Mexico time).

  • Line 1: Olympic Village to Reforma and Buenavista.
  • Line 2: Amores – Tacubaya and Nuevo Leon to Col. del Valle.
  • Line 3: Mina, Juarez, Balderas and Hidalgo.
  • Line 4: Buenavista – Pino Suárez and Buenavista – Bellas Artes.
  • Line 7: Garibaldi – Campo Marte.

What time does the Metro open for the 2024 Mexico City Marathon?

On the social media of the CDMX Metro, it was reported that the Collective Transportation System begins its service at 5:00 a.m. in support of the participants of the 2024 Marathon, who enter for free if they show their registration for the race, but not on all routes, only on those included in the following list.
