Vincent Trocheck scored once in addition to picking up an assist and the New York Rangers edged the Vegas Golden Knights 4-1 at Madison Square Garden.

The defender Braden Schneider assisted in two of four goals for the Rangers (27-14-8), who are 16-4-3 in their last 23 outings.

Jaroslav Halak faced 35 shots in front of the winners goal. His opposite Adin Hill blocked 36 pucks.

The Golden Knights (29-18-3) are having a bad time. They are 2-6-1 in their last nine games and 0-2-1 in their current six-game road trip.

Rangers scored the only two goals in the first period. Chris Kreider gave the team the lead at 16:08 with his 20th goal of the season. He reached this milestone for the eighth time in 10 NHL seasons. Trocheck took advantage of a turnover along the boards to head for the net and fire a backhand shot that hit Kreider on the way before ending up behind Hill.

On the first goal, a clearance attempt by Olli Maatta was intercepted on the fly by Nelson near the boards on the right side, and he advanced in the right circle to shoot. Palmieri touched the disc on the way, but it was Lee who made the difference, despite a check from Gustav Lindstrom which caused him to fall, he managed to extend the stick in front of him to deflect the disc behind Magnus Hellberg (27 stops).
