Round of 16 against Düsseldorf: Why Piccini is relying on FCM in the DFB Cup

It’s time again for a big cup story in Magdeburg! On Tuesday evening (6 p.m.) the DFB Cup round of 16 will take place against league rivals Düsseldorf.

After 23 years, the FCM can move into the quarter-finals again. The last time this happened was in November 2000 against Karlsruhe (5:3 nV).

And this time too, a goal spectacle is programmed: both 1. FC Magdeburg and Fortuna warmed up over the weekend. Düsseldorf scored 5-0 in Nuremberg and the Blue-Whites followed suit with a 4-1 win against Lautern.

Magdeburg’s defenders Cristiano Piccini (31) is full of anticipation: “They may have won 5-0, but our 4-1 win wasn’t bad either. Düsseldorf is a strong opponent. But we play in our stadium with our fans behind us. We want to win.”

Piccini hot for the trophy!

Magdeburg’s Italians have already taken aim. He scored from the spot against Lautern. Would he be ready for a penalty shootout? Piccini: “If it comes to that, I’m ready. I’ll shoot. We are all in a good mood because we have successfully completed an important week.”

Piccini is set at FCM! His experience is valued. The drawback: his susceptibility to injury.

Titz: “Piccini cares for the body with great professionalism!”

Trainer Christian Titz (52) praises him: “It is known that he has previous injuries. But: He takes care of his body with great professionalism. “Cristiano is an important stabilizer – not only with his strength in the duels but also with how he contributes to the build-up game.”

And perhaps his rip-off at the penalty spot will be needed again today…
