Rough driving in Denmark

Do you live in Denmark and need to borrow the car? If you borrow it for a speeding ticket, the car can be seized and sold at auction. The money goes straight into the Danish treasury.

In one week, 21 cars have been seized by Danish police. This happens after a new rule came into force on March 31 writes Denmark’s radio.

14 of the cars were driven by others than the owners. This means that 14 car owners now risk losing their own car, because they have lent it to someone who would not follow the traffic rules.

Got the porch confiscated

One of them was a Porsche owner who had lent the car to a friend who was going to get pizza. The man was stopped at speed control, and had a speed of 210 kilometers per hour. Now the car has been seized, Danish police write on their Facebook-side.

This new rule, with effect from 31 March, will protect Danes from accidents in traffic caused by savage driving.

Must save lives

Christian Berthelsen, who is a police assistant at the National Police’s National Traffic Center, says that this new rule is necessary to save lives.

– We have reached a point where we have to do something with the savage driving. There are people who lose their lives because someone else drives like idiots. Then you simply have to make sure that when you lend your car, then you have to take some precautions, he says to Danmarks Radio.

When the car is seized, it is up to a judge to decide whether the car is confiscated or not. If it is confiscated, the car will be sold at auction and then the money goes straight to the Danish state.
