What will we leave to our children and grandchildren? This is one of the major questions at the heart of the candidacy for the designation of European Capital of Culture 2028. The opportunity to facilitate the metamorphosis of the territory, to promote heritage, etc.
Rouen and its metropolis are in the race alongside all the communities on either side of the Seine, from Vernon to Le Havre. An application also supported by residents, artists, businesses, associations and, of course, all cultural actors.
The Rouen Seine Normande 2028 association is working to unite energies and energize the file which will be submitted on November 11 of this year.
Among all the actions carried out, the association offers all those who are interested in the project to meet May 6 and 7 for 4 participatory workshops. It is a question of reflecting in small groups, with a facilitator, in order to collectively imagine the craziest projects that will make the candidacy of Normandy Rouen Seine an essential candidate for the designation.
Each year, the European Commission honors two or three European cities by awarding the European Capital of Culture label. The selected cities can thus, for a year, promote their heritage and their cultural dynamism through numerous events. Becoming European Capital of Culture is a collective and civic project whose ambition is to sustainably transform the territory and its image through culture. The label is mainly granted to so-called “resilient” cities, knowing how to rely on their weaknesses and their crises to set ambitious objectives for the transformation of the territory in the long term by using culture as a lever.
Since the origins of the program in 1985, more than 60 cities have already received this label, including four French cities: Paris (1989), Avignon (2000), Lille (2004) and Marseille (2013). In 2028 a new French city will be selected, alongside a Czech city.
