The rally in Rotterdam is no longer peaceful

Protesters are unhappy with the plans of the Dutch government to introduce a certificate for those who have been ill and vaccinated against coronavirus.

In a major port city in the Netherlands, Rotterdam, protests against coronavirus restrictions on Friday, November 19, escalated into riots – police opened warning fire. About it reported Netherlands Broadcasting Corporation (NTK).

It is noted that city residents took to the streets to protest the tightening of quarantine in the country amid a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19 and the number of hospitalizations.

In addition, protesters are unhappy with the government’s plans to introduce a coronavirus certificate for those who have been ill and vaccinated, but not for those who have a negative infection test.

In this regard, hundreds of Rotterdam residents organized a demonstration, which soon ceased to be peaceful. Security officials were dispatched to the area where the protests began to restore order. Shouting out the word freedom, the protesters began throwing stones at the police and launching fireworks in their direction.

Law enforcers, in turn, opened warning fire and used water cannons.

During the riots, one police car was burned and one was damaged. During the extinguishing firefighters were also thrown with stones.

As a reminder, on November 7, a similar action, which brought together thousands of people, took place in the Hague… The rally was mostly peaceful, but some protesters threw fireworks and shouted curses at the police.

Earlier in New Zealand, thousands of people also protested against compulsory vaccination and a government-imposed lockdown. The march was the largest such rally in the country, but it was peaceful.
