Hardcore Never Dies should, according to the maker, become the film about that time. Rotterdam was the birthplace and epicenter of the gabber culture in the Netherlands. It was the most popular youth culture in the Netherlands in the early 1990s. Happy hardcore is still played a lot, also on radio stations. The film follows a young student – played by Jim Deddes – who completely loses himself in the gabber scene in Rotterdam. According to filmmaker Taihuttu, gabber is “perhaps the one and only originally Dutch subculture with its own clothing, music and dance style. Hardcore Never Dies should be an ode to that,” he said earlier to the ANP.
