Rothko Center will try to overcome uncertainty in six exhibitions in the new season / Article / LSM.lv

From Friday, November 6, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center will start the new exhibition season with six projects that will “try to overcome the existing uncertainty at this special time”, the representatives of the art center informed.

“Being aware, reconciling or not giving in to influence is an individual choice. Each exhibition project has its own tactics, but the common feature remains – it is through artistic expressions that this uncertainty acquires a conceptual form that, once formed, becomes insurmountable, ”explained Rothko at the center.

The work of the artist Ieva Jurjāne will be shown in the exhibition “Gals & Sākums. Continued ‘. As noted at the Art Center, these works “may seem decoratively restrained, but only until the harsh truth expressed in them becomes perceptible – the only thing we can be sure of is the inevitability of the life cycle. This finding does not have to be cumbersome. It is simply because without the inevitability of the rhythm of life, there would be no joy in the newly budded buds, peace dictated by experience and a moment between these states. ”

In the exposition “Elements”, artist Kaspars Geiduks offers his stopping points in a dynamic and momentary chaotic world. “A single element or a set of elements can bring up both social and temporal metaphysical themes. It raises questions about the body structure of the object and reflects on the diversity of natural forms. The works created in ceramics create their own microcosm, where not only the acquired outlines are important, but also the technical and chemical processes experienced during creation, ”explained the organizers of the exhibition.

In turn, only the intuitively perceptible boundaries between complete emptiness and the absolute unknown are fixed by the artist Elga Grīnvalde in the series of paintings “The Power of Emptiness”, where the emotional experiences of human life alternate with memories of the taste of events. The exposition is complemented by urban landscapes painted in Riga and Florence, and conditional landscapes with sea horizons, Tuscan cypresses and mountain passes, where lights and shadows are both concrete and sharply marked and flowing imperceptibly.

Lithuanian ceramic artist Egle Einikytė N Narkevičienė compares people with plasticine in the exhibition “One Size”. He explained at the Center for the Arts: “Initially, it is one form, but by subjecting it to certain hand movements and coincidences, it acquires an anthropomorphic shape, the fate of which is determined by the environment.” In search of color harmony, the author is inspired by the combinations of tones and compositions seen in Mark Rothko’s paintings, especially emphasizing the relationship between the object and the background, where sometimes the figure is decisive, but other times its silhouette.

The graphic art exhibition “Japanese Stories” is a collage of recent trends in contemporary Japanese graphics. It contains features of traditional naivety and decorativeism, as well as examples of cynical pseudo-realism and sharp abstractionism. The exhibition shows the current situation in Japanese graphics, capturing its diversity.

Photographic artist Siliang Ma (China) seeks recognizable structures in chaotic phenomena in his work. The title of the exhibition “Fluctuations from Disorder to Order” is borrowed from quantum physics, where quantum fluctuations are temporary and random changes in the amount of energy at a certain point in space. According to the organizers of the exhibition, this means that the basic structure of matter (order) arises from uncertainty (disorder / chaos). The exhibition is organized as part of the 3rd International Photography Symposium in cooperation with the Riga Photography Biennale.

The exhibitions of the new exhibition season are available to visitors until January 10, 2021.
