Rot-Weiss Essen: Essen boy favors the 2nd Bundesliga – RWE has no chance

Rot-Weiss Essen is still looking for reinforcements. The third division club will not be able to get a player that RWE would like to have in its ranks.

A few days ago, RevierSport reported that Red-White Essen after Ahmet Arslan has again looked towards 1. FC Magdeburg with regard to possible reinforcements.

Above all Jason Ceka caught the eye of those in charge in Essen. No wonder: The winger has been playing for 1. FC Magdeburg for three years and has always been a top performer. But now he is said to be one of the candidates for elimination in Christian Titz’s 30-man squad.

According to RevierSport information, RWE is said to have inquired about the 24-year-old Ceka, as well as his club colleague Andreas Nollenberger. But RS learned from RWE’s environment that these transfers could not be realized.

The reason: Ceka, in particular, sees himself more in the 2nd Bundesliga. According to Bild, SV Elversberg is also said to be keen on the services of the Essen native. Elversberg’s wallet is of course much thicker than that of the third division club from Essen. In addition to RWE, league rival Dynamo Dresden is also said to be interested in both Ceka and Nollenberger. Dynamo certainly has financial arguments here – see also the move of RWE captain Vinko Sapina from the Ruhr to the Elbe.

Rot-Weiss Essen had Ceka on their list in the past

Interesting: Ceka was already sitting at the table on Hafenstrasse in the summer of 2021. At that time, he was a guest in Essen with his advisor Adrian Spyrka – Ceka has since changed consulting agencies – for exploratory talks. The then RWE sports director Jörn Nowak and coach Christian Neidhart were very interested in Ceka, but he ultimately preferred a move to the then third division club Magdeburg.

The 24-year-old right winger Ceka was born in Essen and also spent seven years (2005 to 2011 and in the 2016/2017 season) in the RWE youth team. He later played for FC Schalke in the U19 and U23 teams. In the Regionalliga, he contributed a whopping 20 goals and nine assists in 70 games. For FCM, the 1.69 meter tall Ceka, who has great speed and is a strong dribbler, made 36 appearances (eleven goals, four assists) in the 3rd division and 52 games (six goals, 17 assists) in the 2nd Bundesliga. Great numbers! In the first two games of the 2024/2025 season, however, Ceka only played one minute.
